Personality: A bronze rider in the true sence of the meaning, a gentleman, a defender of Pern and it's people, both against thread and any other threats. He knows his duty so well, it's almost all he knows. He likes to push himself, but he takes good care of himself, he knows he might be called upon to act at anytime. He follows strict routines in his normal day, eating at the same time each day, reading and training during his spare time. He's very self sufficiant and won't ask for help easily, though he'll offer help readly. He expects others to do the same, and so if he needs help, please offer it. It's the actually asking for help he finds very degrading, not being helped. D'ton has always been a bit of a loose cannon, but he's learned to control it, with the help of it gettting someone killed.
History: Son of a Bronze Rider at Igen Weyr named T'nath and a young holders Daughter called Mareth. She was so young that she wasn't considered old enough to take care of such a potentially important child and Daton was raised by his father at Igen Weyr, his father was attentive in spending time with him, but not in getting to know him. He was just another one of his duties. At the age of 8 Daton was becoming very rebelious and a lot of work because of this. T'nath decided that he was loosing to much time on his son and sent him to live with his now handfasted mother how was eager to renew ties and had always felt she was able to bring Daton up. His stepfather Windech, who had a hold very near to the one Mareth grew up in, was openly happy about Daton lving with them, but saw Daton as the son of a arrogant Bronze rider who had made his wife unhappy.
Daton disliked his life as a holders son, and continued to try and continue what he say as his dragon rider training. He'd disappear for days, returning covered in cuts, bruses and mud. This continued for a few years and Windech slowly got used to this behavior. Mareth did nothing to discourage Daton doing this though as she felt that he was going to be a dragon rider, just like Daton, and if he felt he needed to do this to achieve that, then so be it. It caused many an argument between Mareth and Windech. He knew how devestated she would be if one day he didn't make it back.
When Daton was 11, Winech decided to take Daton with him when he took a tithe to Igen Weyr. Daton was really excited about seeing his father again, and expected T'nath to be as excited. Unfortunatly T'nath was his usual emotionless self, saying no more than a brief hello to Daton before returning to his Duties.
Windech saw the devestation in Daton and tried to comfort him. Daton reacted badly to this, feeling isolated and lost. He ran from the Weyr and down toward the coast, grabbing a small row boats and rowing as fast as his small frame would allow him to. Knowing he was responcible for Daton now, as it was clear that his real father was not, Winech gave chase and grabbing a boat of his own, began rowing after him. By this time however Daton had quite a headstart and was rounding a small island. The think folliage and high cliffs of this island prevented Winech from noticing the sails of a large ship approching the Weyr. Panicing, he tried to turn his little boat around, and, not being very at home in the water, crashed it straight into the sheer cliffs of this small island. The boat started to take on water and sank within a couple of minutes taking Windech with it. When Daton returned to the Weyr, and Windech was nowhere to be found he thought he had achieved his aim and he had returned to the hold without him or had atleast gone to their quarters for the night. Daton felt he had no reason to be there and stared back after he had something to eat. He returned home and found his mother in tears. She was holding a letter from the Weyr, telling her that her husband had drowned. Someone on the boat had spotted the drowning Windech and dived in after him, but it was too late. Daton didn't know what to do, so he never told his mother what Windech was doing rowing a small boat around an island and when pressed he became very angry with her. She never even considered the possibilty that it could be Daton's fault. The next day T'nath visited, and in an effort to be close to his father, Daton told him what had happened, though he didn't mention what he was doing rowing, just that Winech was chasing after him. T'nath decided not to upset Mareth anymore by telling her this, but he told Daton that he would never be a Dragonrider now, and that his responcibity was to his Mother and her other 2 children. D'ton was devestated inside, he wanted to be a dragon rider more than anything but he took his fathers words very seriously and worked very hard for his family and gave up all dreaming of being searched. A year and a half later, when his younger brother was just old enough to be useful around the hold, he was visited by a Blue rider named Y'reng and taken back to Igen Weyr once again, this time to stand as a candidate. T'nath refused to talk to him, angry that he had left his family to fend for themselves. But Daton felt he had to protect them in a new way now, by doing what he had always felt he was meant to do.
After standing for three and a half years, he impressed a Bronze named Klamath and then T'nath realised that D'ton was looking after his family after all, just from the Weyr. The Weyrling Master was very impressed by D'ton's dedication to training and built on the disciple he had learned that far.
Abilities/Weaknesses: He's pretty torn up about having to leave his family, he knows they can look after themselves but he hates it anyway. He feels responcible for them. He still looks up to his father, which is bad coz T'nath doesn't much like him. He's overly dedicated usually to the exclution of peoples feelings. He still carries a huge sense of guilt for the death of Winech, but the way his father punishes him for that goes a little way to preventing it from making him too depressed.
